You want to use plastic that is approved for use with food. What happens is the chemicals leech into your water from using cheap plastic buckets. Using the correct type of plastic is a must to build a SAFE system and it is NOT cheap by any means.

These guys are funny! The best plants would be grown in hydroponics meaning ONLY water and NO other media. Nutrients would be from PURE mineral salts ONLY! It gets no better or more PURE than that!
