FM Spokesman Yigal Palmor:
"Let's make one thing clear right at the outset: Israel does not oppose Palestinian statehood. Israel wants peaceful coexistence, side by side with a future Palestinian state. But peace can only be reached through direct talks.
There is simply no other way. A peace agreement, clearly, involves two parties who, well, agree between themselves on the terms for peace.
This goes without saying, but it goes much better if you say it. Because some people seem to have forgotten the obvious.
Israel's previous government had agreed to open discussions with the Arab League on the so-called "Arab Peace Initiative", only to be snubbed. It had submitted a full-fledged comprehensive peace plan to the Palestinians, only to be ignored.
The current Israeli government has agreed to make an important gesture to the Palestinians in order to resume negotiations, by imposing a 10 months moratorium on construction in settlements. The Palestinians refused to respond in kind, and never stopped complaining, first , that the gesture wasn't sufficient, and then that it wasn't prolonged.
My message to my Palestinian neighbors is this: you can't evade the inevitable. You will not achieve peace and statehood without Israel.
You can't pretend we do not exist, or that you can do without us. We have to talk. Negotiations will not be easy. We're in for some arduous, laborious, tortuous work. But there simply is no other way if you truly aim for peace. No conditions, no taboos -- let's just sit down and talk."

The spokesperson of Israels' Prime Minister for the Arabic media clarified the Israeli position regarding the current intentions of the Flotilla to float towards Gaza.
Israel views this Flotilla as a provocation and as an unwelcome and illegal act, because this Flotilla, in fact, aims at bringing political, moral and propaganda assistance to Hamas, which is a terror organization according to the international law.
We hold that the organizers of this Flotilla are wishing only to entangle Israel and to break through its' legitimate naval siege on Gaza, which aims only to prevent the smuggling of weapons to the hands of Hamas.
We call upon the ships which participate in the Flotilla to anchor in the Israeli port of Ashdod and we obligate to pass its' cargo to the Gaza Strip. If our call shall be refused, we will be left with no options other then to resist the ships in the open sea according to the international law which allows us to halt suspected ships that move towards a hostile entity.
We hold the organizers and the participators of the Flotilla fully accountable to the happening of any injuries and damages on their ships. We do not wish for any violent confrontation, but we will defend ourselves if our soldiers and our IDF ships shall be attacked.

The Prime Minister of Israel has instructed the Israeli army to do everything possible to prevent the flotilla from reaching Gaza and to avoid any unnesessary violence and physical contact with the boats' passengers.
It must be understood, that this a provocation - first and foremost, because Israeli naval blockade of Gaza is absolutely legal according to the international law. We know, that today Gaza is ruled by the Hamas - a terrorist organization which is threatening Israeli civilians.
Israel must be certain that there's no influx of new rockets, weaponry and equipment that can be used by Hamas in its attacks on Israeli citizens - especially chlidren, like a few months ago. We demand from those vessels to stop at the Israeli port, to submit their cargo to inspection and if it is harmless - we will help to deliver it to Gaza. There's no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The people in Gaza have access to all the food they neeed. Israel is determined to defend its citizens and not to allow this illegal breach of its sovereign rights - those instructions of the Prime Minister to the army will be carried out to the letter.

To mark International Human Rights Day, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon held a press conference with Prof. Gerald Steinberg and Anne Herzberg of NGO Monitor on the exploitation and abuse of human rights, particularly with regard to NGO's and the use of Lawfare against Israel on Thursday, December 9, 2010.
At the event, NGO Monitor, an independent Jerusalem-based research institution, presented its updated monograph NGO Lawfare - Exploitation of Courts in the Arab-Israeli Conflict to the Deputy Foreign Minister. Lawfare has been described as a strategy of using or misusing law as a substitute for traditional means to achieve military or political objectives.
In his presentation, the Deputy Foreign Minister stated that due to the consistent Palestinian refusal to come to the negotiation table, during 2011 the Palestinian Authority will continue attempts to assault Israel's legitimacy through tactics like Lawfare and other obstructive unilateral steps, and the global human rights agenda will once again be hijacked and abused for a narrow political agenda.
NGO Monitor's study details the exploitation of courts by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in their efforts to use courts to prosecute alleged human rights violations by Israeli officials. Lawfare also includes groundbreaking research on EU-funding for these cases as well as for NGO lobbying for prosecutions of Israelis at the International Criminal Court.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel Danny Ayalon: Human rights organizations have become pawns serving the Palestinian Authority in "this political warfare that is being waged against Israel" and "have been manipulated and used either by terror organizations or other elements to try and strip the right of self-defense from democracies." States that fund these organizations are responsible for strengthening terrorism and encouraging the Palestinians' false hope that they can establish a state without negotiations.
On the eve of International Human Rights Day, DFM Ayalon called on the international community and human rights organizations not to forget the abducted Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, whose rights have been trampled by Hamas, and to work for his immediate release.
