I have the 24-105 and I'm looking to get the 24-70 simply because I need a good lens to use indoors. F/4 just doesn't cut it in moderate to low light conditions.

Having used the non-L 100mm f/2.8 macro I can tell you right now it is a great lens and I wouldn't look any further if you are using a APS-C Crop sensor. It is bloody sharp lens and one of the best I have ever used.
