About Me:

The Irish Brigade from Co. Tyrone, formed after the 1981 hunger strike,

they tell in song, story and poems the epic struggle for Irish independence

The bands latest album's follows eight other recordings, on CD, and audio cassette

The Irish Brigade are a Irish Rebel Band from county Tyrone, they have been playing Irish Rebel music since the early 1980's. The first album they had out was the Roll Of Honour, which was in memory on the 10 brave men who died on hunger strike in 1981. Such songs on the album are about the hunger strikers such as Ballad Of Bobby Sands, A Fathers Blessing (For Joe McDonnell), Hughes Lives On, McElwee's Farewell. Since then they have recorded over 10 albums such as Rising Of The Moon, Our Day Will Come, Pardon Me For Smiling, and The first live album was in the Sidewalk Music Café in Dublin in 2003. They have also wrote some of the best loved Irish Rebel Songs such as The Sam Song, My Old Man's A Provo, A Prisoners Anthem, The Brixton Busters, They play gigs all over Ireland from Kerry up to Donegal, from Tyrone to Wexford, and from Dublin up to Belfast. The band hope you enjoy the music and one day hopefully see you at a gig.

Songs are an important part of a peoples resistance. In times of despair cheerful songs or war tunes lift our spirits; songs commemorate fallen comrades or retell notable events; songs show that we cannot and will not be beaten. Of course, songs on their own cannot defeat the enemy. Or can they?
In the H-Blocks of Long Kesh or the dungeons of Armagh's Women's Prison, songs became a weapon in the prisoner's meagre arsenal; songs showed their defiance and broke the spirit of their captors. The songs were sung in Irish; sung without accompaniment "sean nos" style; songs echoing along quiet corridors from behind cell doors rising in solidarity. The prisoners sang political songs, old rebel tunes, new songs.
Such are the verses here sung by The Irish Brigade. These are the kind of resistance songs which are heard in Belfast, Derry and Tyrone or in the quiet countrysides of Fermanagh, Down and Armagh. They tell the story of a struggle which is yet unfinished, and in telling the story they help to insure that all those who live and die in Ireland or for Ireland do not die in vain. Listen to them.
This page is dedicated to the memory of Bobby Sands, Francis Hughes, Raymond McCreesh, Patsy O'Hara, Martin Hurson, Joe McDonnell, Kevin Lynch, Kieran Doherty, Tom McElwee and Michael Divine who died on Hunger Strike in 1981. They shall never be forgotten. Their struggle goes on.....
