This made for a much cleaner sounding amp than Marshalls other offerings, which were considerably more gainy. The Major also used ...

It has often been stated that Holmes is a somewhat cold and, perhaps even cynical character. Yet, here, as well as in "The Bruce-Partington Plan", he shows a romantic side to his personality. Good episode, this.

I love the way this car looks. I don't think the XJ has looked this good since the original 1968- '73 series. that one was the estetic yardstick back then. This is the yardstick now. And that interior!

@creamyfilling102 Yes it is. And, I wholeheartedly agree with them. If you ask me, the equivalent Mercedes, BMW and Audi all seem somewhat dreary in the looks departement, compared to the Jaguar. Not to mention the latters interior...

@mikemaninblack In mk II there was only one guy who could sing, really. Both the mk I and II line-ups had just one lead singer (Rod Evans and and Ian Gillan respectively). The idea of using two singers was new for Purple when Coverdale and Hughes joined in '73. I suggest you listen/read up on Dee...

This is great heavy ROCK (this ain't metal, folks!!). Purple, Zepp, Sabbath... they were the kings of the heavy rock era... Love it!

@MojoHandle Sabbath is, because of what you pointed out, NOT metal. They are heavy rock, just like Zeppelin were. Judas Priest and Motorhead, however... now, there's the first two metal bands for ya!

This is a horribliy recorded version. This is what give "bootleg" recordings a bad name. For a much better recorded version, go to volfgangs vault. Say no more!

The "Live January 1973" album is an unsung masterpiece from the seventies. It's right up there with Purples "Made in Japan"... absolutely spectacular!

@suemarnamosdp Yeah, allthough technically, that's Space Truckin' with the MR improv framework added. Besides... I don't much care for the MIJ improv... Organ section is fine, but that guitar section is not among Ritchies finest moments IMO. He sounds drunk.

Great performance of this ace track. Pity about the out-of-phase thing between Johnnys vocal mike and the mike in front of Tommys bass cab, but... that's how TV recordings of the day tended to be, I suppose...

The rhodes duel that Chorea and Savinuhl does here is just out of this world! For that matter, this whole track is out of this world. Talk about taking the funk idiom of the day and exploding it!

Shame, 'cause he is right up there, really, with Sanders, Lloyd, Shepp... he just didn't do very much of the "free" stuff...
