SIKH BY BLOOD INDIAN BY DESTINY

When I was young, I was told I was Sikh.
But it was not loud enough.

When I was young, I was told I was brave
But I could still not hear.

When I was young, I was told to defy the tides of society
But I refused to listen

When I was young, I was told to believe in a king above all kings
But I became deaf.

And at the nadir of that very deafness
I finally told myself everything I was told before.

And it was true.

And now I can hear again.
