I believe the reason it's a sub-bass is because it's tuned to one octave below a normal 4 string bass.

First off, the only fretless Ibanez 6 string is the Ashula, which is actually a hybrid (Low B string to the D string are fretted, and the G and C strings are fretless) that looks nothing like this bass. Also, a LOT of brands have that headstock shape...
