IGOR OLIVIER EZENDAM - FEELING SOUND
A musical traveller between worlds
Dutchborn singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and artist, Igor is an acknowledged performer and teacher of vocal harmonics, able to produce an incredible scale of 11 clear overtones in his voice. Self-taught musician and singer, playing guitar and piano before discovering the Australian didgeridoo at the age of twenty, from which he developed a new musical instrument: the 'Circular Horn', exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam and the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris.
In 1987 he hears overtone singing on the radio for the first time and knows that he needs to find out how to create this double sound singing. Today he arrives at eleven harmonics above the fundamental note, demonstrated at the international convention 'The Artistic Voice' in Ravenna.
Igor offers concerts and workshops teaching vocal harmonics and encouraging people to free their voices. He's been invited to teach the yoga of sound (Nada Yoga) at the SivaSoorya Divine School of Yoga during their Swiss Yoga Teacher program 2011. He has presented his work to all middle school music teachers for the Swiss Italian High School teacher Training courses.
His concerts are musical voyages around the world with a wide variety of styles. Igor accompanies himself with Hang and other forms of percussion, didgeridoo, guitar, shruti box. There is always an interaction with the audience as he is guided by their reactions - no two concerts are the same.
His vocal repertoire is not limited to vocal harmonics from Tuva, mongolia, but it is inspired by soul, shamanic chant, blues, tibetan undertones and sufi mantras, as well as ethnic sounds from Australian Aboriginal, African and Indian traditions.
A traveler between worlds, his mix of improv and original compositions inspired by different musical traditions puts a dreamy smile on his audience as they discover the sounds and their beneficial effects.
He's developed a teaching program for studying one's creative processes and enhancing awareness and integration of our voice, breath, rhythm and innate musicality, organized in courses, workshops, individual lessons and experiential meetings Igor's ample collection of musical instruments and experience in the field help to create a beautiful experience for adults and children of all ages.
His individual Voice Coaching sessions encourage one to allow one to express one's full vocal and vital potential.
His workshops are a laboratory for liberating, hearing and loving our voice and to find out how sound, rhythm and melodiy can influence our mind and state of consciousness, how we can use music to create an environment of peace and of growing awareness. This educational program has been translated into a school laboratory for children of various ages through "musical journeys" held so far in many Swiss schools.
With his Soundmassage, applying the vibration of the didgeridoo and overtone singing on the body, Igor has had good results aiding in the dissolution of tensions, pains and energy blockages.
Igor Ezendam has given concerts and workshops in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Austria, Ireland and the USA, producing several solo albums as well as duets with various artists. He's currently living and teaching in Switzerland.
