In 1940, one of Sinatra's first recordings performing with Tommy Dorsey was the grief-etched "I'll Never Smile Again." At the time--during WWII--the song captured the pervading mood of the country. "I'll Never Smile Again" was the Dorsey band's biggest hit. It also was the first number one song on the first Billboard Record Chart. In 1982, the Dorsey/Sinatra recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Sinatra recorded this haunting and bittersweet ballad several times throughout his career, but none as mournful or moving as this May 1959 rendition. Even in sadness ("I'll never smile again"), there's hope ("Until I smile at you"). And hope is a good thing. Sometimes, the best of things. Oh, how I hope with all hope to smile again...
Note: the widely held notion that "I'll Never Smile Again" was written by a woman whose soldier husband died in WWII simply is not accurate. The song was composed by Ruth Lowe following the death of her first husband; however, he died in 1938 during surgery to correct a kidney problem. Happily, Lowe would smile again: she remarried 6-years later. Ms. Lowe also penned "Put Your Dreams Away," which for several years served as Sinatra's signature song.
I'll never smile again Until I smile at you I'll never laugh again What good would it do? For tears would fill my eyes My heart would realize That our romance is through I'll never love again I'm so in love with you I'll never thrill again To somebody new Within my heart I know I will never start To smile again Until I smile at you...
Further note: I mistakenly credited "Capital" Records in the video. The correct spelling is "Capitol."

Frank Sinatra - That's Life Music Video Hi this is my second year project for my Media Studies A-Level!On here you cant really tell but when you see the man on stage it is in old age film in which gives it the old feel with the age effect! I enjoyed making this from creating the lighting on the stage to editing! I hope you enjoy it to! The story I created was about a man who was a performer who had everything he ever dreamed of, from having his name in lights to just being able to perform on stage. In my video I have captured from how you see him being on stage at his best performing and then walking around the streets of London as if he was still in his prime. For every star there is always an end and for this performer he didnt want to believe that it was and I have shown this from showing him walking into the theatre and walking round London dressed smart as if he still had everything. However when you see him chucked out of the theatre you see he is only a tramp living on the streets trying to make his dream become real again. I show the difference between the realities of him being on stage by using an old age effect to show that was the past, but when showing him walking into the theatre and around London you see he is still dressed smart but life around him has changed. When his career ended he didnt let it go and by trying too hard to get back onto stage he forgot about his responsibilities he ended up losing his home, his money and even his family and now living on the streets still trying to get back on stage.

Sinatra was at his vocal best in the 1950s--and that is clearly evident in this sadly and hauntingly beautiful February 1955 recording. "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" is one of Sinatra's most magnificent performances. The emotional pain and longing that comes with losing true love can be heard in the phrasing of each and every word Sinatra heartbreakingly breathes...
In the wee small hours of the morning While the whole wide world is fast asleep You lie awake and think about the girl And never ever think of counting sheep When your lonely heart has learned its lesson You'd be hers if only she would call In the wee small hours of the morning That's the time you miss her most of all...
Note: I misspelled "her's" in "You'd be hers if only she would call." Geez, and I know better! Stupid me: tears got in the way. Oh, I also mistakenly credited "Capital" Records in the video. The correct spelling is "Capitol."

No one on Youtube (that I know of at least) had this version of "Had to be you" so I thought I'd make a VERY simple and quick video. =P
[I don't own Frank Sinatra or this MP3. Thanks.]
