@Bulliondon Sealing the box with metal tape defeats the purpose: opening and using the radio. I do agree that the box is marginal as an EMP case though. The duel painted surfaces do not make a great contact area. The lid and box edges need to be cleared of paint and some sort of metal gasket mate...

Man, that is WAY too expensive and to promote this as SURVIVAL gardening is a joke. This is HOBBY gardening. For survival gardening you need ACRES of land not a few buckets.

I clicked dislike because this was done two years ago by a different person and no credit was given to them for the inspiration. This almost sounds like a total rip off. Too bad you tube does not allow links but look up the same title by Jon Schmidt.

@beckibaumgartner When I said "runner" I meant rhizome. The plants I have send out new growths from underground rhizomes or runners, like crabgrass and other grasses.

@wavecapsule THEY have a key to the lock box. YOU do not have a key to the lock box. THEY open the box and make a copy of the key. How are you going to know and verify that your key has not been copied or that it is even in the box?

@JBBabbitt That is a SEALED battery. I don't believe they vent gases because it is a GEL inside. There would be some heat though.

@BowskinArchery So, for items like clothing the braintan method would be best. The tannic method would be best for items like saddles, harness straps and shoe leather, stuff that needs to be TOUGH. Correct?

I liked it other than it needs a door and a way to turn it from the end. A piano hinge and a simply mfg door would do this wonders. Either a hand crank or a pulley hooked up to a motor or bicycle or even a modified treadmill (sift and exercise at the same time) would be something that could be done.

@frankcoffee I think the extra lens would melt the second lens faster than the steel. Much better to use mirrors or some other reflecting devise to direct more sun light onto a single lens.

I am trying to get my head wrapped around how this could be adapted to a bicycle (human powered) mode for remote and off grid operation.

@MrJJ2K Solar heat is amazing and clouds/snow do affect it, obviously. But it actually does not care what the ambient temperature is. We have a small solar oven that we use on sunny days here in So. ID. Even when the outside temps are well below freezing we can get the oven to over 250 degrees F....
