The third MGS is actually where the story of MG starts, if you're playing it for the story, I'd play the third one, first. If you have a 360 or PS3, I suggest purchasing the HD collection as it contains MG1, MG2, MGS3, MG:PW and MGS2.

Eh? In regards to the disc thing, you're wrong. Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy XIII both had a single disc for the PS3 and multiple on the 360. So no, not all games are on single discs for all consoles.
