As a performer, Ian' ability to oscillate between ferocious growls and hypnotic melodies, amidst backflips and crowd surfing, commands awe -- an understatement for the tens of thousands he has entranced here and around the world. With Queso, he toured the Philippines several times over reaching nooks and crannies that many successful Manila-based bands have not touched. In line with their 2006 album release, they placed second in the World Battle of the Bands championships whilst MTV Philippines gave their single "Mottaka" the Most Fashionable Video Award.
Brands like San Miguel Red Horse Beer, Tribal Gear, Motorola, and Draven not only endorse Ian but also make use of his insight and expertise for their endeavors. Among these, he is a fixture in the line-up of judges for the annual Red Horse Muziklaban, he helped to spawn Tribal Gear and Lee Pipe's annual Dutdutan Tattoo Convention, and he conceptualized an apparel line that Draven is prepping for launch. Moreover, Sega Japan engaged him as a composer for the musical score of their video game "Hummer" which he also lent his voice to.
Although "rock star" would seem to be an apt label, Ian sees himself more as an entertainer concerned with his contribution to Filipino culture as well as with inspiring creativity. A restless desire to innovate coupled with a passion for music and arts at large pave the way for his current pursuits, all of which he masterminds. These include: Wilabaliw, a band embellished with grand theatrics and with its sights set on the world; TNT Pilipinas, a viral video show that documents his travels, geared at uncovering the country's hidden treasures in a truly unconventional manner; Grand Slam Tambulan, a touring percussion group that instigates drum circles; Alsa Kultura, an organization set to empower Filipino artists.
Although these pursuits are in relative infancy, Ian has been cultivating them for many years now enlisting the right individuals at the right time who share in his vision and who wish to contribute to its fruition. His unwavering drive, foresight, and sheer talent radiate a magnetism that draws massive support from those who connect with his energy. Zeal and determination propel him forward, and there is no sign of slowing down.
