I find it unusual for the props dept to disregard the era this is set by using lighting, especially late Victorian/Early 20th Century oil lamps that weren't even invented yet... let alone the still undiscovered fuel used in them!.
@easkr I have some very simply ideas relating to fitting chimneys in the old way with wire, if you private message me somehow I will email you pictures of original argand lamps and their chimney holding aparatus and give you ideas on chimneys, they only need to be straight tubes.
I found this video quite entertaining, the shot of a CONA style vacuum coffee maker at 0:24 being described as a 'lamp candle'...
Turning the wick up so the lamp smokes just so you can turn it slightly lower than this will still creat smoke when the burner warms up, that's if you haven't already...
