I've often given the argument that it doesn't make any sense for YT to go after older stuff that will obviously never be on tv again (the intros, commercials, veejays and even the music video ID's all make me feel like I'm actually in 1984). I watched VH1 as a kid in the 90s which was pretty similar, but there's nothing as cool as the real thing.
The only time I'd think it might make sense to pull something off is if its currently on tv and possibly could hurt the sale of a DVD...but they don't seem to realize this kind of promotion actually HELPS since it gets more people into older bands.
