First, let me say: I BELIEVE THE MOODY BLUES ARE THE GREATEST BAND EVER. PERIOD. So I invite you to:TAKE THE MOODY BLUES CHALLENGE!
Im a Moody Blues fan whos disgusted that the group hasnt gotten the recognition it deserves.
For example, why arent they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (I call it the RRHOF)? Does the RRHOF really believe that the group doesnt have the talent? The credentials? The experience? The innovative expertise? The sheer volume of fantastic songs?
Well, I think they have all that and more. Much more than every other group in there. In fact, I happen to think the Moody Blues are the greatest group of all time. Better than the Kings Michael and Elvis. Better then the Rolling Stones. Yes. Ill say it. Better than the Beatles.
I also think they are far better than RRHOF inductees The Coasters, The Drifters, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Impressions, Booker T and The MGs, Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers, The Velvet Underground, Parliament Funkadelic, The Moonglows, The Flamingos, The Dells, The Ronnetts, The Dave Clark Five, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Run DMC.
Yes, I really do believe the Moody Blues are better than Parlaiment Funkadelic. Then the Flamingos. Then the Dells. Yes. You heard it correctly. And Im sorry to tell you this, but, yes, I really do believe the Moody Blues are a better Rock and Roll band than Run DMC.
So instead of simply saying my favorite group is better then yours Im here to issue a challenge to everyone who doesnt think so.
Now some people may not know who the Moody Blues are at all. Some may know them as that group who sang Nights In White Satin. Others may know them for some of their other hits, like Tuesday Afternoon, Question, The Voice, and Im Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band. Still others, like myself, may have explored the bands seldom heard songs, and discovered the true solid gold that this band has produced. Songs that, in my opinion and many others, are often even better than the groups biggest hits. Unbelievable songs that I would like to see more people listen to and perhaps give the group some of the recognition it richly deserves.
The Moody Blues Challenge is not really intended to try to have you say that the Moody Blues are better than your favorite group (of course if that happens I wouldnt be surprised). What it is intended for is to introduce you to the fact that this is truly an amazing band with songs that will make your life a whole lot richer, and to have you say that the group deserves a lot more recognition than it gets. I also hope it will make you question what The RRHOF is really all about, and demand that the Moodys be put in it.
Actually, Im doing this because I figure the band would like to be inducted, and if thats the case, its the least I can do as an appreciative fan. I also know that many Moodys fans desperately want this to happen. As for myself, I think the REAL RRHOF is actually a HOF of just one, The Moody Blues, and for the them to go into the RRHOF would, in a way, be kind of be a downgrading for them. The Moody Blues are just way too high quality! (Could it be the RRHOF realizes this?).
So, to take the Moody Blues Challenge:
1) List your top ten favorite songs of your favorite band. Or just list your top ten Beatles songs.
2) On Youtube, listen to the list below of my favorite Moody Blues songs. Please note this list includes none of the groups biggest hits. I want to make sure that you hear songs that you have likely never heard before, songs that whoever the powers that be in the music world are must have deemed to be not worthy of play on radio or TV.
3) Listen to the words, and feel both the meaning and the feeling the music conveys. Get a feeling for the richness, the quality.
4) Come back and comment on who you compared the Moodys to, and what songs you used to compare. Tell us what you had previously known about the Moody Blues (Such as never heard of them before, knew a couple songs, knew a lot about them, etc.). Let us know how you think of the Moodys after listening, and what you now think of them compared to your favorite group. And if you still believe your group is better, try to educate us Moody Blues fans on why you think so. By all means, see if you can change our opinion. And comment, if you will, about what you now think about the Moody Blues not being in the RRHOF.
5) Moody Blues fans, I know some of you will like my choices, but I also know many of you will disagree with what is on my top ten list too. Thats fine. You can help by putting your own top ten lists up here for people to use. As we all know, there are all kinds of great Moody Blues songs and a top ten list doesnt do them justice, which just shows even more how great they are (actually, I wonder how many groups there are in the RRHOF who couldnt even put up a top ten greatest list?). So feel welcome to put your own favorites lists up here!
Above all, come back and comment!
@kmoorebaltimore
That would have been a disaster for me.
