In 2008, Foundation IJMF presented the first-ever International Jewish Music Competition. Reaching a larger and younger Jewish audience and providing a podium to undiscovered music and musicians, the competition was an unprecedented success. From the more than one hundred interested ensembles, 24 top-notch amateur & professional ensembles from 15 countries were screened and selected. They played music of virtually every imaginable genre, from classical and Klezmer to reggae, rap, and jazz, and all of it unmistakably Jewish. Seven ensembles were recognized with awards including cash prizes, concert engagements and consideration for a professional recording contract with Universal Music. Following the competition, many participating ensembles made great career strides. Five were booked in the world famous Concertgebouw, a.k.a. the ‶Carnegie Hall of Europe". Others garnered recording contracts and tours throughout Europe and the U.S.A. thanks to the exposure and contacts made during the competition of 2008.

In 2010, the second competition attracted interest from twice as many ensembles. Again 24 were selected using a blind audition (anonymously numbered CD's for the selection committee). The ensembles played for sold-out audiences and a world-class jury, including Adrienne Cooper and Hankus Netsky. Several foreign Jewish music festival directors attended and many more scouted via our website. Prizes, bookings, recording contracts and representation worth more than €70,000 were awarded.
