@ballader1 before I read you comment, my McAfee firewall turned off on its own. I tried turning it back on but it just shuts back off. Will GMER fix this or do I need to do something else?

Heres my problem.I have a Dell Inspiron 17r and when I try to start up my laptop, the screen is black and says "operating system". I can still press f12 to go to set up options and go to BIOS but im not sure how to use that to fix laptop.someone please help me I would really appreciate it.
