This video is Named "The Bridges of Katrina". It starts on Interstate 10 where large boats and barges have struck the bridge so hard that the entire spans are moved more than 4 feet. The South span (East Bound) was badly damaged as it was bombarded during the storm. The other span is fine as the first took all of the punishment. This mess caused us to wait in line for hours to cross the single span. The second half is views off of bridges in the area between Biloxi and Slidell. It shows several marinas where the boats are piled up and the building are stripped below 10 feet. This is our 8th installment and we have many more on the way. This video was shot 3 weeks after Katrina. Although most of the media attention is on New Orleans, I found that the damage in Biloxi, Mississippi was devastating. In New Orleans they are dealing with flooded houses, in Biloxi the houses are gone! I have hours of video and I will be presenting most of it in time. This is the Biloxi waterfront. Note the large structures remain, however, the destruction to smaller structures is nearly complete. This video primarily focuses on damage caused by the 20' storm surge. Of particular interest is the Casino Barges. There are 3 in this video, however, there were others as well. The barges were located 100 yards from the beach, laying primarily in parking lots. The first is a boat stuck in the mud backwards, the second is a full sized cargo container stuck in the bayou. These objects are a mile from the road we were on, please excuse the crude camera operation. This camera has a great zoom, unfortunately, my arm is not as good. You will also see a refrigerator stuck 20 feet up in a tree, and more life vests in trees. Later, a back hoe is flipped over, despite the outriggers being deployed. The end is more rolling shots of the water front. Note several commercial buildings with the lower half removed. HurricaneChaseExtreme.com Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Slidell, Louisiana. According to maps, the storm's eye passed directly over Picayune, MS, less the 20 miles away from Slidell. Most of the old fishing camps that lined the lakefront north and south of I-10 were all but erased, with only the wood pilings remaining. Of special note, I was surprised at the thousands of life preservers and ski vests that were hanging in the trees.
