"Day of the Dead come to life? That's one way to look at filmmaker/artist George Newnam's amazing attraction, CASA DE CALAVERAS™ House of Skeletons, which has grown into a beloved autumn-time staple of the SoCal art scene, returns yearly to the Bowers Museum and other venues during their Día de Los Muertos festivities."

ABOUT THE ATTRACTION

"Life-size skeleton figures posed in various dioramas tell the moving tale* of a deceased couple who return to earth each year on the Day of the Dead. The joyful pair, José and Gloria Calavera, get engaged and married during their earthly adventures; the dressed-up duo also celebrate the holidays and pay a visit to a Gypsy Caravan to have a fortune told. Black light, colorful blinking bulbs and skeletons clothed in top hats and fashionable gowns lend the walk-through attraction a mysterious aura and a personal vibe."
- Alysia Gray Painter / NBC Los Angeles

ABOUT THE ARTIST

George Newnam, a graduate from Chapman University's School of Film & TV in Orange, California, was inspired by the illustrations of popular Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada, when planning and designing this attraction. Also, his collection of skeleton folk art from Mexico played a big part in the development. George and his team use such things as: recyclable objects, papier-mâché, fluorescent paper, paints and clothing, which includes vintage, new store bought and also newly designed costumes.

George has also directed short student films and his graduate work, a dark comedy, FEAST, was an official selection which screened at the 2003 Shriekfest Horror Film Festival in Hollywood, California.

Mr. Newman, very interesting artwork. I enjoyed your video and have returned the sub. I too am an artist, and amateur one. I like to recreate images I've seen before. Here is a link to something I did: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39847788@N05/3665074221/in/photostream, I hope you like it. Take care my friend.
