(April 3, 2014) -- Horace Mann marked its 2,000 pin on Pinterest with a special delivery and a "LegosĀ® for Education" board on its Pinterest site. Employees from Horace Mann surprised third grade teacher Lauren Harmon's class and delivered more than 10,000 building blocks, along with storage bins and idea books, to her classroom at Harvard Park. Harvard Park is Horace Mann's partner school in Springfield, Illinois.

"Building blocks are a great tool for educators to teach students fine motor skills and how to take a project from beginning to end," says Harvard Park Principal James Hayes. "But building blocks are expensive, and it's hard to get enough for every student to use them. This will help us give more students an opportunity to design, build and see a finished product."

Horace Mann employees donated the blocks as a way to celebrate Horace Mann's success with Pinterest, a social media platform popular with teachers. As an insurance company Founded by Educators for EducatorsĀ®, Horace Mann's Pinterest site focuses on ideas that are useful to educators, and it's a resource for teachers sharing lesson plans, classroom decorating ideas and organization tips. With more than 5,500 followers, Horace Mann ranks number one on Pinterest among insurers.

"We can't wait to see what the students build with these blocks," said Social Media Director Kristi Hillyer. "This donation mimics the gesture which goes into each pin on our Pinterest boards. It was our pleasure to build a connection between a local school community and a national social community of educators." Show less
