Heh. At first I thought they'd stuck their enemies into the Time Capsule (with some comic-book doohickey to prevent them from aging). THAT would've been super-dickery at its finest.

One of the few scenes where the TNBA redesign really works. It's far more suited to comedy than anything else. Makes Joker look like one of the spies from Spy vs. Spy.

His voice actually sounds a bit whiny, as in "Will you give me the damn slab already?! I don't want to stand out here all night, and I don't think you want me out here all night, either!"

Now, this was a weird one to put on Adult Swim... it's not bad by any stretch, but the tone is downright bipolar. In my humble opinion, this is the ONLY Scarecrow episode from BTAS worth a damn, as far as Scarecrow's character is concerned.

Huh. I do believe that this is the only ending to feature any references to the season's plot.

Also, is it just me, or is the end kinda... dark? In tone, I mean. Cool bit of foreshadowing there.

As a general rule of thumb, print is allowed to get away with more shit than TV is. Even in Japan.

Case in point: the manga version of this duel not only had actual saws, one of them actually drew blood from the guy's leg before Yugi saved him.

Also, that voice sounds oddly adorable coming out of the short, round Steve's mouth.

It's not an easy series to abridge, since half the time, the original seems wacky enough to qualify as an abridged series all by itself.

God damn, I love the music for this scene. Used in all the creepy, claustrophobic episodes (like the duel against Pandora/Arkana).

On the subject of Yu-Gi-Oh! manga online...

All of the chapters ARE present online in some form, but a good chunk of them need to be downloaded. Some sites like Tenmanga have SOME of the chapters that you can read directly online.

They'd never get the balls to do it (JKR and WB would sue them to hell and back), but it would be kinda neat. The standard Avada Kedavra would make for a pretty boring fatality (it leaves the body completely unmarked), but summoning Nagini to eat the opponent sounds fun.

You know, I always that the original cover art for this DVD made Zoro look like the main bad guy.

Man, when all the Straw Hats were looking up in terror, I honestly thought that what they were looking at was the 4Kids logo. :P

An island that turns out to be a giant turtle doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would freak out the likes of Luffy and Zoro.

Also, I think that Usopp's "victory" phrase roughly translates to "I'm captain from now on!"

According to the author of the manga, that was because Usopp was with Luffy, and Usopp was a "bad influence". Seriously.

He did it to both Zoro and Sanji during the Arlong arc. Sanji noted that with his fishman super-strength and all, the droplet of water felt like a shotgun blast.

Some of the storylines are actually pretty fun what-ifs: Buggy's Adventure, for example, has him assembling a crew out of the other pirates that got their asses kicked by the Straw Hats, sort of like One Piece's very own Legion of Doom.

I know I'm probably gonna get lynched for this... but 4Kids' Gold Roger's voice sounded a bit more... impressive.

Granted, FUNimation's Roger is closer to the Japanese one, but Japanese Roger's voice was never amongst my favorites.

On a more nostalgic note, I kinda miss the days when Zoro was the crew's resident Robin, like he is here - calm, stoic, and least likely to make an Anime Face.

Wow... the punching scene is a lot less impressive than I remembered it being.

The Binky scenes are just as hilarious as they were nine years ago, though.

Never a fan of Cow and Chicken (too much grossout humor) or Johnny Bravo, and Dexter's Lab had a 50/50 chance of boring me. LOVED PPG, Courage, and the Eds, though.

I still think it would've been funnier if Joker was pouring the gasoline out of an actual teapot. Ah, well. Different strokes.

Please note that as dumb as Ra's might seem here, comics Ra's actually went a step further and actually COLLABORATED with the Joker to create a virus form of Joker Venom that would depopulate the Earth.

God, I love comics.
