Sono composte da due cilindri gonfiabili che vengono inseriti nei corpi cavernosi, da una micro-pompa non visibile alloggiata nella borsa scrotale e da un serbatoio che viene alloggiato nello spazio preperitoneale in sede sovrapubica. Il sistema è riempito da soluzione fisiologica sterile che passerà dal serbatoio ai cilindri in fase erettile e che invece sarà tutta contenuta nel serbatoio in condizioni di detumescenza.
