Upbraiding Paxo for "lachrymose sentimentality"... absolute, gold-plated, fucking genius. I quite like Boris (he's likeable, for a Turk), but Brand would shit all over Boris in a one-on-one (it would be like the old HIGNFY Boris-Merton repartée).
I'm not from the same region of the political spectrum as Brand (I'm an anarcho-capitalist - the only system that doesn't have unstable intertemporal dynamics), but the bloke is absolutely admirable.
Pt2... the point is, that 'nature' is not some fuzzy bullshit kum-bay-yah folk festival in a national park. And it's not a de-personified deity that we can't transcend.
Nature is just a blind chaotic entropy machine. Human science will - eventually - enable us to free ourselves from it entirely.
Nature is scary and smelly and downright fucking horrible - infant mortality is >20% and people die from routinely die from starvation, predation, infection and contaminated water.Bionics, Transhumanism, and the end of Evolution (Full Documentary) . ...
The point that is missed (in the banana supply/demand analysis) is that the 'law of demand' is a testable hypothesis that emerges from the logic; for example, the elasticity of demand depends critically on the assumptions about the rate at which marginal utility diminishes. And when that test is performed empirically, the data support the hypothesis.
The Austrians should limit their "anti-quant" prejudice to BAD quant (as I try to limit my anti-handwaving bias to BAD hand-waving).
State schooling was (sort-of) invented by Otto von Bismarck - by which I mean specific State control of curricula and setting to the pedagogic and cultural objectives.
Bismarck was not Kaiser (he did become Chancellor of the 1st government of a united Germany, in 1871... the role that Hitler assumed in 1933). Everything he did as Minister President of Prussia (1862-1873) had the imprimatur of the Kaiser (William I).
State education is a Prussian (militaristic, anti-liberty) invention. Please see: http://thomassheridanarts.com/videogallery.php?video_id=2

If you're in the iCult, you simply accept the retarded "multi-select is an 'edit' coz we say so" and "iCult has decided you may not send more than 5 images at once, peon"... and reach for another soy chai latté.
It's worse than stupid - but then again you have to be worse than stupid to buy a low-spec mono-tasking iThing in the first place.
And don't get me started on the 'designed in cupertino' ads (which don't have a 'Made in a Chinese Sweatshop' coda).
What you 'believe' (that the point of a capsule machine is 'time') is not relevant: there are MANY points. For most folks I know, it's about having a decent crema, without shelling out $400 (or more) for a machine.
If you think that regular filter coffee is remotely comparable to decent espresso, you've seriously been using Nescafé pods for too long or you drink 'American' coffee (which tastes like the dishwater used to wash out a bin full of week-old used coffee grounds).
My guess as to the evolutionary basis for religion: 95% of humans are social and so are 'wired' to trust and co-operate... and then there are sociopaths who realise that the tendency to trust can be exploited - priests, politicians and other parasites.
In other words, religion arises due to the existence of a parasitic sub-species (homo cheneyensis - the modern version of homo ecclesiasticus) who trade in bulshit and lies.
Months, not years.
In the late 1980s I used the machine you're talking about (padded leg-rests & seat; handle that 'cranks' open your split). I went from 'barely 100 degrees' to a full side split in ~11 weeks.
Get a gym mat & position yourself on it; mark your max on the mat w/ a V from groin to each knee; exceed & re-mark *every* time you stretch. Alternate PNF and AIS, too.
I'm 6'2"-ish, >200lb (bit fat): I can work back to a full split any time. I'm not 'naturally' flexible.

I vote that you and the rest of the Malthusian fucktards be the first to volunteer for 'world-improving' sterilisation.
You realise that every significant prediction made by Malthus turned out to be totally fucking wrong, right? That's because Malthus was a fucking moron who didn't understand how technology works or how wealth alters reproductive habits.
Malthus had an excuse - he was an 18th century religiotard with backward pre-Enlightenment retarded ideas. What's your excuse?
Srsly? That's your best shot? "Are you a Koch brother".
No, but when I was a PhD student I spent half a decade trying to teach the TOP 5% - 3rd year and Honours students in Economics at a major university (had to be in the top 5th percentile to get into the course).
Fully half of them could not write a decent sentence - and some could not do algebra, trigonometry or calculus, despite the course requiring an 'A' in Yr 12 Math I and II ('pure' and 'applied' respectively).
Actually, it shows that faith healing doesn't work at all. It's ludicrously easy to work out that prayer doesn't work: if you have cancer or an amputated limb, "prayer plus treatment" does not work better than treatment alone... and prayer alone won't get you a new arm.
Also: both sides in all major European wars claimed that god was on their side, prayed to him, etc. One side always lost.
"Two men say they're Jesus - one of them must be wrong". Dire Straits, "Industrial Disease".The last thing we want to do is water down the teaching of biology because some people don't recognize that evolution happened.
