About this user

My name is Heather Zimmermann, I am 24 years old and I am currently attending the University of South Florida. I am working on completing my Bachelors degree in mass communication, with a minor in communication. I am expected to graduate in the summer of 2011. For me, writing is extremely therapeutic. I find, in my darkest moments, writing frees my thoughts and renders the words onto the computer screen before me, leaving my head clear of any debris. I have a fun and outgoing personality, and I love to talk. In fact, I received the award for most talkative at my senior class breakfast. So, I figured a good career choice for me would be a job where I could talk and write a lot; a career in broadcast journalism. I have wanted to be a reporter since I was a little girl. My dad teaches T.V. Production at Countryside H.S. and he used to bring me to his class when I was sick and couldnt attend school. I remember sitting around, watching all the high school kids get ready for the big, 10 minute, live broadcast that would air around the entire school. It was exciting and I remember thinking, I want to do this. My career path really began in his class years later when I attended Countryside H.S. I learned an abundance of key knowledge that would set me apart from the rest of the broadcast journalism students in college. I learned how to edit on editing systems such as Final Cut Pro, Avid, and Media 100. I also learned how to anchor the live, 10 minute broadcast. I wrote all of my news stories in broadcast format, and sometimes had to be a one man/women band. After graduating from Countryside, I felt prepared for the work ahead of me. So here I am in my junior year at the University of South Florida. Aside from college however, I have interned hands on at News Channel 8 in Tampa, where I wrote, reported and edited all of my own stories side by side with two of their top reporters, Mark Douglas and Yolanda Fernandez. I learned how to effectively and efficiently write my stories for day-of deadline. In fact, my internship was beneficial for me, in learning how to work in hectic and fast-moving environments, smoothly and accurately. I have made strong connections with people in the business and I continue to work hard to achieve my goals.
