You would think the activist crowd would be bothered by Kam I's behavior, but if youre into revisionist history and possibly even crystal meth, then its a safe bet that youre not bothered by Hawaiis actual history of thousands upon thousands of Hawaiis native islanders being speared and shot by fellow native islanders for the sake of Kam I's rise to power.
For Hawaiians that dont like the word overthrow, they sure didnt mind when Kamehameha I violently overthrew the leadership of each island with the help of Western assistance in the form of Western military strategies, military guns, military ships and such in his successful military campaign to "unite" the islands. In fact, John Young, the very military man who helped lead Kamehameha (after whom Kam Highway is named) to victory, was made Governor of the Island of Hawaii. More important to understand is that throughout the history of the Kingdom of Hawaii, people of ALL races were citizens of the Kingdom and people of ALL races served as government leaders.
And you dont have to be an historian to realize that the Hawaiian monarchy absolutely LOVED money, power, land ownership by the crown, the elevation of alii and kahunas over the commoners, or keeping people in their place. In addition, we all know how monarchs loved the United States and western ways galore. Just look at the outfits they wore, the palace they built, and the flag Kam I designed with the Union Jack in the corner. Sounds like some people are projecting the kill haole day mindset of the sovereignty movement onto the former kings and queens of Hawaii who felt quite the opposite from these modern day neo-alii activists.
Those Hawaiians who resisted Kam I are the real Hawaiians. Actually, the real Hawaiians would be the Marquesans, who were in Hawaii first and were all killed by the invading Hawaiians(Tahitians).
