I have been regarded by many as the founder of modern motion picture publicity and my background was a press agent's dream. At the age of thirteen I ran away from home and joined the circus. By the time I was seventeen I had twice travelled around the world with a magician known as the Great Reynard. When I arrived in New York to introduce Reynard to the "big time", I brought with me a mastery of the promotional principles that I had learned in the carnival world. These I applied first to Broadway entertainments and then to motion pictures.
