Some information about Francois Cevert:

Francois Cevert was born on February 25, 1944 in Paris as the son of a Paris jeweler and died on October 6, 1973 at Watkins Glen during Saturday morning qualifying.
After successful years at Fromula 3 and F2 Ken Tyrrell took on Cevert to be Jackie Stewart's team mate. His first F1 race for Tyrrell was the 1970 Dutch GP.
In the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Cevert earned his first World Championship point by finishing sixth. With virtually every race he was getting stronger and closed the gap to Stewart.
His first and only Grand Prix victory he earned 1971 at Watkins Glen. 1971 he took third place in the Driver's Championship, 1972 sixth.
1973 Cevert was capable of running with Stewart at almost every race. He finished second six times, three times behind Stewart, who acknowledged that, at times, the Frenchman had been a very "obedient" teammate. The plan was to make Cevert world champion in 1974 after Stewart decided to retire from racing.
Tragically the new French F1 Hero was killed in the 1973 US Grand Prix practice session at Watkins Glen when his car crashed into the barrier in the high speed passage Esses.
