He does. Perhaps, you have only listened to his ghazals and songs, which he has deliberately made simpler to appeal to the massess. Listen to his bhajans, for example. You will see his command on the classical form of singing.

Should have been pronounced 'mandar' as in 'man ka dar (darwazah), which is the correct pronunciation anyway. Josh sahib always pronounced it 'mandar' in his poems. But I think for Jagjit saying it 'mandar' would have been very odd.

Khurram shaib, there is another version of this nazm from the 90s live performance. I find that much better. The live concert included ghazals such as 'Chand ke saath', 'Apnay honton par sajana chahta hoN', etc. Kindly upload it if you have that version.
