About this user
Thirtyseven is in reference to a scene from the movie 'Clerks'. Been using the nickname for many years in online chatrooms and forums.
I really dig movies. My favorite movie is Almost Famous, Everything about it seems a perfect reflection of the time, and it reminds me of my own life. Kevin Smith movies are also favorites, The Last Emperor, Star Wars, Waiting, any Parker and Stone movies. I love comedy, action, some drama. I tend to stay away from horror. I also love documentaries, The Mayor of The Sunset Strip is a favorite.
Music is my life. I collect it, play it, sleep with it, live it. If I could find a way to eat it, I probably would. My absolute favorite music to listen to is anything by Frank Zappa, I even spend all day every Sunday doing just that. I grew up listening to anything from punk, to electronic, industrial, classic rock, funk, even some world music. Classical stuff can get boring, so I'm a bit selective, jazz is the same. Some of my favorite music today: David Bowie, Flaming Lips, David Sylvian, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Negativland, U2, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cocteau Twins...
One of my favorite musicians is actually my best friend Steven Wilson, we grew up together in California, and recently his music project Plasticsoul has been making some headway, he's even done a small European tour, I'm really proud of his songwriting, and trying not to sound too much like an ad here, you all should check it out, maybe buy a copy of his CD, check him out on myspace.
But I have absolutely no stomach for (recent) country music, I just don't get it, it makes me laugh, and I do as much as possible to stay away from it. However I do like a lot of older artists. When I was a kid my "dad" (more on that another time) was a well know country DJ on Los Angeles radio in the 1970's. I vaguely remember when I was about 6 or 7 years old meeting the late Johnny Cash. I have had an obsession since then.
Books? I tend to go for biographies, poetry, diaries. I enjoy peeking into people's lives. Favorites include Hanry Rollins, Jim Carroll, Rimbaud, Shakespeare, Lord Byron. I also have an exstensive collection of books dealing with religion, paranormal and occult topics as well...
My real passion is for writing. I am currently setting up several blogs on my website. they will be topical and include not only a personal site, but others dedicated to music, WoW, Frank Zappa and my main passion, the unexplained.
If I ever gather enough posts and thoughts on my blogs, I might think about making it all into a book someday.
