He was talking about two different things... the sword of metal... that people use in the flesh and then he was talking about the sword of truth, in the spiritual world, The truth that will overcome the devil and all evil.
Therefore it is not a contradiction, they are two different things.

The Sword is the Bible which is the Word of God, LUKE 22:36 THEN SAID HE UNTO THEM,BUT NOW,HE THAT HATH A PURSE,LET HIM TAKE IT,AND LIKEWISE HIS SCRIP;AND HE THAT HATH NO SWORD,LET HIM SELL HIS GARMENT,AND BUY ONE. So if you dont have a Sword you can go and buy one,the name of the Sword is the Authorized King James Holy Bible.

Jesus said 'those who live by the sword die by the sword" then he tells you to carry the sword..lol contradictions in the bible =fake.

BUT THEY HELD THEIR PEACE. Jesus was healing this man's hand on the Sabbath day, and Pharisees held they peace. And in V.4 AND WHEN HE HAD LOOKED ROUND ABOUT ON THEM WITH ANGER, Why did Jesus looked on them with anger? BEING GRIEVED FOR THE HARDNESS OF THEIR HEARTS,HE SAITH UNTO THE MAN,STRETCH FORTH THINE HAND.AND HE STRETCHED IT OUT:AND HIS HAND WAS RESTORED WHOLE AS THE OTHER. So Pharisees were accusing Jesus to heal this man's hand on the Sabbath day, but Jesus was angry with them for that, and Jesus broke the Sabbath by healing this man's hand. So you can stick your Sabbath up your donkey, you perverted Pharisee.
