You did not state what file type you began with, .jpg, .png, etc. I started with a .png and I couldn't save the final product. Gimp complained that information would be lost, "You are about to save a Layer Mask in PNG. This will not save the visible layers."
How do you resolve this?
Could you make a walk through for Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, and Linuxcoin ;)
