Hello I'm Guru Shawn Abernathy of Dayton, Ohio. I'm a Filipino Martial Arts practitioner specializing in the system of SIKAL. Sikal is the mixture of two systems, Silat and Kali. Both of these systems by themselves are wonderful, but when you combine the two together something truly amazing is born. Sikal is a weapons based system specializing in edged and blunt weaponry but also possesses excellent empty hand skills. The reason for this is because the empty hand work is based off of the weapons work. Sikal not only covers the range of the weapon but all ranges of fighting, long, medium and close range as well. I have been practioning Sikal for approximately ten years now and was given the rank of Guru ( Full Instructor/Black Belt) in September of 2008. Since then I have continued to grow as a person, martial arts practitioner, and instructor and I plan to continue this growth throughout the rest of my life. As the saying goes, I'm a constant student of martial arts. As well as being a Sikal Guru I'm also a first degree black belt in Doces Pares Eskrido, experienced Kenpo Karate practitioner, with background experience in Mauy Thai, Jun Fan, Sayoc Blade System, and Taekwondo. Sikal not only incorporates techniques from the filipino martial arts but other systems such as Mauy Thai, and Jun Fan just to name a few. As you can see I love what I do. The best way I could think to describe myself would be with this statement, " A man of few words, but many deep thoughts and even more profound actions. " I welcome the oppurtunity to train with anyone who is interested in martial arts. I hope you enjoy the videos that are posted and feel free to comment and contact me.
