About Me:
(C. 950 C.997) was a Portuguese magnate in the Kingdom of León. He regularly carries the title count , the highest in the kingdom, in surviving documents.
He may have used the title
magnus dux portucalensium
("great duke of the Portucalense").
His name in contemporary records is usually spelled
Gundisaluus Menendiz.
In 966 Gonzalo assassinated Sancho I of León. He invited him to a banquet and fed him poisoned food. Rofl:)
In the late 960s Gonzalo's lands came under the ravages of the Vikings.
In 968, he fell out with king Ramiro III after the latter refused to fight them. In the factional and succcessional politics of the time, Gonzalo may be said to have favoured the line of Ordoño III and his son Vermudo II over Sancho I and his son Ramiro III,because both Sancho and Romiro sided treaties with the Moors. And from here started the Feud between the Northwest and the rest of the Iberian Peninsula.One of the main reasons we have Spanish language today (and Spain), separated from Galician and Portuguese Languages.

I cant help if everywhere you look you see/hear Portugues or Spanish Heritage. Hey for real of course in Iberia,Sardinia,Sicily,Corsica, France, Southern Italy, there was/is North African admix I don't deny it. But strictly speaking of my own peninsular, (haplo. J, J1,J2) it's very minimal % in the North vs the % in the South, in total it doesnt even reach 5.0% in Iberia, and most of it with all do respect is in Southern Spain. The invasion of the Moors were mostly Arab generals with minimal Arab armies and more % of Berber armies,under one religion. And berbers are, at least for most part Caucasian (AMAZIGH Race) . Arabs,and Jews, belong to subclades of haplogroup J, but J is very ancient J1, J2 is the most recent Arab,and Jew variant, very minimal % in Iberia, Berbers are E1b1b (E-M81)+(E-M78)that's around 7% to 12% in Iberia.. El Cid was a Berber himself! It was all for religion not Race! One of the biggest contribution to the Renaissance was Spain. We wouldn't have numerals today if it wasnt for that part of Spain. We'd be writting em' in Roman Numerals instead. We wouldn't have all the great Greek mythologies and the rebirth of our ancients, thnks to Spain and North Africa. And of course many other things that us Europeans and the rest of the world adapted,from Iberia and North Africa. Don't be scared I'm not!
