894 views 2 weeks ago

I am pleased to announce that the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will offer a special workshop on the music of guitarist/composer Leo Kottke, which will bring together unparalleled resources for the study of three of his compositions. This workshop will be held in Kenilworth Square East, the elegant satellite facility of the Peck School of the Arts.

I will teach this class with the assistance of Andrew Lardner, Benjamin Kammin, Joshua Lane, and Macyn Taylor who bring specialized background and depth to this workshop. If you have an interest in learning the music of Leo Kottke, I hope that you will join us. Using extensively-edited written music, specifically designed pedagogical materials, and video, you should be on a straight path to understanding the technique and music of Leo Kottke.

This year, the Music of Leo Kottke summer workshop will present "Julie's House," "Busted Bicycle," and "Airproofing."

Students should have at least intermediate facility on the guitar and be able to read tablature. Maximum enrollment: 45. If you're coming in from the great beyond, a residential option in UWM Cambridge Commons is available.

1. You may enroll in this class as a noncredit workshop by calling the Peck School of the Arts Box Office at 414-229-4308, Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-7pm.

2. If you are currently enrolled at UWM, you may register for this class (MUSIC 489 LEC 093, 20333, Workshop: Music of Leo Kottke) for 1-4 credits on PAWS.

Distance-learning option
If you are not able to attend but are interested in working with the specialized resources that we have developed, a distance-learning option is available with course content delivered as a series of individual lessons via Skype along with printed materials and online access to specifically designed pedagogical materials. To take advantage of this distance-learning option, call the Peck School of the Arts Box Office at 414-229-4308 to enroll in this class as a noncredit workshop, and contact me directly to set up a schedule for your Skype instruction.
