I currently live in Victoria, BC, Canada but I've also lived in London, UK.I'm into music and cars among other things (if you haven't already guessed from my selection of videos). I've been a drummer since age 10 and have played in numerous bands.
Tastes in music vary although I primarily enjoy rock, funk and blues from the '60s through the '90s, and hey, I admit it: I like a lot of stuff from the '80s. I'm a big fan of music that is upbeat, colorful and has a big sound - even if the surface image is sometimes a bit cheesy. Hey, I grew up in the '80s and early '90s - what can I say?
There's a lot of good stuff out there today as well, and I'm into that too... although I must say that much of the good stuff - i.e. music played by real musicians with true talent and creativity - gets swept under the rug by the music marketing machine as it force-feeds soulless pop, electronic and hip hop junk to people who eat it up because they don't know any better.
Don't get me wrong, there has always been poppy crap on the charts but there used to be more good music as well. Now it seems the charts, music television and the industry in general are overrun with sub-par "artists" (I wouldn't even call them that) with far more bling, gloss and manufactured fame than talent. Hopefully the general public will catch on at some point.
Remember when music was played by real people, not computers or programmers? Or when performers were appreciated for their musical talent, not just how good they look in videos or pictures? I do, and it wasn't that long ago. Even in the image-obsessed '80s and '90s there were artists that could deliver on the talent side as well - and artists that had talent but maybe didn't look so hot also had hits. Being a commercial success in music without having to look like a 20-year-old club tramp or teenage poster boy, and being able to sing in tune, keep time, harmonize or lay down a great groove without electronic aids, drum machines, samplers, sequencers and other nannies, or a backing band of "hired gun" session players... what a concept!
That's my rant for the day. Maybe I'm just getting old(er), but I know a lot of people - old and young alike - agree with me.
As far as cars go I'm into anything that's fast - doesn't matter if it's domestic, import, homemade or whatever. Although I have favorites and dream cars, they come from many different manufacturers.
Other interests include real estate and almost anything entrepreneurial, the outdoors, meditation and spirituality, and a whole lot of other things too.
