First off, what pictures are you talking about?Second, an exposere time, like an old photo would have had to have, could have produced that effect. It's just an odd affect that captures fwd movement and wing beats. That's it!

Yea, only after I went there and then went on a couple of tours with the family in Kyoto did I find out that that was normal for new years.
