Having in played in many bands over the years that range from metal, rock, hip hop, blues and even jazz, doing session work and a bit of music for TV, I decided in the winter of 2009 it was time to write and record my own music. I decided that I would record my first instrumental guitar album. This has always been my favourite kind of music and all my biggest musical influences all seemed to be from this genre.
I decided that I was going to record my work at home at that it was going to be a totally solo effort, that way I got things my own way! I recorded my first album on the BOSS micro BR which is a digital 4 track recorder. I had to use all my studio experience to get the results I wanted and was extremely pleased with the what came out. The main goal during the recording process was to write and record songs that none guitar players would like with catchy melodies that stuck in peoples minds. It would have been to easy to have gone into a studio and just recorded myself shredding like so many modern guitarists do, which is fine but I wanted something more than that, something with a little substance. I took influence from older players such as Carlos Santana and Jeff Beck who's melodies say more in two notes than some players say in thousands.
The recording process took around five months was a lot of fun and also very liberating. Once the album was completed I put it on general sale in June 2009. The response was fantastic! I had no idea how people would react to this kind of music but the feedback was unbelievable and the album was downloaded several hundred times in the first month! I had to do a lot of self promotion which was new to me but I did find this fun even if it was a little time consuming!
I would describe the album as a good balance between soul & shred with a cool vibe throughout...

Once the album was released I formed "GREG DAVIES PROJECT". We would perform the songs on the album live and try and build a good following in the UK. Members of the band are- Greg Davies- Guitar Phil Davies- Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards & Congas Kevan Thomas- Bass Lee Gilbert- Drums.

So far the bands gigs have been a real success and we are currently building a solid fan base in the UK. Live the songs take on a whole new meaning and are performed at a high energy which crowds seem to really respond to. Every gig we perform seems to be a success which is a big achievement considering your average music fan expects to see a band that has a vocalist!

Since the release of the first album I never really stopped recording and have now completed my second album! This album was again recorded at home and again was a real pleasure to write and record. I think this album shows greater maturity in my playing and my writing. The album is titled "WANNA PLAY" and again has strong melodies, there is also some shredding in there for the rockers! This album has eleven quality tracks on it and the band have already started performing songs from it live, again the response to the tracks have been fantastic! I think anyone who heard the first album will really enjoy the second one and should purchase one right away!!!
