Green Day first became a band in 1987 . It wasn't called "Green Day" yet though, it was called Sweet Children. Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt formed it. In 1989 adding drummer Al Sobrante and changing the name to Green Day, that same year they independently released their first EP called "1000 Hours". Soon signed a contract with Reprise Records, (a division of Warner) and released their first album, then replaced drummer Al Sobrante, who quit the band for college, with Tre' Cool. Who is still with the band.

alot of people at my school dont know how old Green Day is my teacher asked me which Green Day album was best I sayd Dookie and hes sayd he he rememberd the song Longview back in th 90's and then my classmates around me r like what how old is Green Day I told them they been around since 1987 so I showed them the Longview Music vid some of them never heard that song I told them thats pure punk my teacher sayd next time play a diffrent 1 without bad language XD

I hate wen people say there not punk anymore they r punk its just that 21st CB was a little diffrent cuz it was a rock oprea but alot of the songs were punk rock and some alternative and like mayb 1 or 2 were like pop punk
