I own 5 desert tortoises and in the months of September, October and November I have up to 18 hatchlings. My female desert tortoise Candy will start digging and laying her eggs in June and July. Now Candy doesn't produce as many eggs as she could because she has a gallstone and that also affects how she copes with the delivery of the eggs.

Puddy was my first Tortoise, my Great Grandparents found him in there yard I was 5 years old at the time. Then acouple years down the road a friend decides she and her husband are going to retire and travel so she gave us three of her tortoises. Thats how I received Hermen, Grumpy and Candy.

All my tortoises get along very well but of course when it's mating season you need to be on the look out for flipped Tortoises. When the males are fighting sometime they flip each other over, now most of the time they can get back over but there are time when they can not and need help.

They tend to hibernate towards the end of October and I have cardboard boxes with shredded newspapers and keep them in my garage.

Buddy my almost year old baby tortoise lives indoors in his large glass aquarium with heat lamps and a house slipper as his cozy house. Yes thats right he sleeps in one of my house slippers, One day I let him down on the floor and he found my slipper (new ofcourse) and squeezed him self as far in as he could go. So I gave him the slipper and boy does he love that thing, it must be because its nice and snug tortoises like tight places.

With Buddy you can already see his personality, now I am not sure if Buddy is a male or female and I wont know un till hes about 15 years old.

From the time he broke out of his shell and his shell got alittle hard I was holding him. Buddy just loved it when I would hold him in my hands, one hand cupped over the other it was like a sauna. At times my hands would start to cramp up so I started putting him on my chest right at my collier bone and would hold him there.

Now that he is bigger I can not hold him with one hand under him it takes two hands now, so when I do hold him its right there on my collier bone and neck.

Buddy loves to have his head and neck rubbed, there are times when he only lets me rub his chin and hides his head when I try to rub the top of his head.

Buddy has never peed on me and it was up un till recently that he had never pooped on me either (what a good boy).
