On the day of Uhud. When many fled and a group (a few) stood fast with the prophet pbuh to fight. This day many men fled, but the women stood fast. Amongst them was a weak woman. She defended the prophet (p) and she urged her sons to fight with her and protect the prophet (p). The prophet pbuh said (something like this): I looked to the right, and a woman was defending me, and then I looked to the left and I saw a woman defending me, whereupon I said: Who bears what you bear! O um Emmerah, ask me, wish, wish! She replied: We desire your company in Paradise o prophet(pbuh)!.

Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Auf:
While I was fighting in the front file on the day (of the battle) of Badr, suddenly I looked behind and saw on my right and left two young boys and did not feel safe by standing between them. I was amidst small children so I felt uncomfortable because I wanted men to defend my back. Then one of them asked me secretly so that his companion may not hear, O Uncle! Show me Abu Jahl. I asked: What do you want from him? He replied: We heard that he used to insult the prophet(p). I said, O nephew! What will you do to him? He said, I have promised Allah that if I see him (i.e. Abu Jahl), I will either kill him or be killed before I kill him. Then the other said the same to me secretly so that his companion should not hear. I would not have been pleased to be in between two other men instead of them. Thus when I became certain that they were truthful, I pointed him (i.e. Abu Jahl) out to them. They dashed towards him like arrows ,ripping the lines of soldiers and both of them attacked him like two hawks till they knocked him down. They returned to the beloved prophet (p), each one of them happily telling: I killed the enemy of Allah swt. Those two boys were the sons of 'Afra' (i.e. an Ansari woman). (based on Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 324 and the speech of Khalid Rashid - O ummah of Muhammed)

Narrated Ali: when the battle(war) grew fierce, and we came behind the prophet. He used to fight the people and defend us.

The companions said: whenever we searched the prophet on the battlefield, Wollahi we found him in the middle of the enemies fighting.

The companions said: We used to hide behind the prophet pbuh and seek his protection.

He(Muhammed pbuh) was such a warrior, commanding and fighting on the way of Allah swt, but once he was out the battlefield, his eyes downcast(ed) and he was speaking soft and he was gentle.

On the day of Hudaibiya,
Quraysh sent Urwah bin Al Maso'd(an influental chief) to negotiate with the prophet Muhammad(pbuh).
He was mocking and of what he told the prophet pbuh was:
Quraysh has worn the tiger's skin and promised to Allah(God)the Almighty that you will not enter upon them forcefully.
By Allah think if tomorrow these with you(companions) turned form you and left you.
Abu Bakr (ra) who was behind the prophet pbuh replied:
??? Will we turn away from him?(never!)
So he(Urwah bin Maso'd) asked: who is this, o Muhammad??? The prophet pbuh replied: May my mother and father be a ransom for him,
He is the son Quhafah, HE IS THE SIDDIQ(the truthful).
Then he(Urwah bin Al Maso'd) tried to hold the beard of the prophet pbuh.
When he extended his hand (to grab the beard) A very young man, was standing beside the prophet pbuh and hit his hand with the cover of his sword and said:
Hold your hand away from the beard of the messenger of Allah!!! HOLD YOUR HAND AWAY FROM THE BEARD OF THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH!!!! Otheriwse this(hand) might not, BY ALLAH, NOT RETURN TO YOU!!!
Urwah said: Woe to you, what angered and enraged you? Prophet Muhammed pbuh smiled.
So Urwah said: Who is this o Muhammad!!???
He said: This is the son of your brother,(his name is) Mughirah bin Shu'ban.
Urwah returned (after spending some time with them) to Quraysh after he saw how the companions treat their messenger Muhammed pbuh.
He said:
O people, I swear by Allah that I have visited kings. I went to Caesar(Roman emperor), Chasroes(Persion Sultan) and the Negus(Ethopian King) in the plenitude of their power.
but never have I seen a king among his people like Muhammad among his companions
I have seen a people who would not abandon him for anything. By Allah, whenever he spat it never fell to the ground, it fell into the hand of one his companions, then they would wipe their faces and skins with it. If he instructed them to do something, they would hasten to do as he commanded. When he did wudoo, they would almost fight over his water. When he spoke, they would lower their voices in his presence; and they did not stare at him out of respect for him.
O Quraysh, Reconsider your position. He is presenting you with right guidance. Accept what he has presented to you. I advise you sincerely... I fear that you will never gain victory over him.
