I was 16 when this song came out, and of course it was controversial. What I remember most was trying to explain to my English teacher (who was otherwise brilliant) that this song is poetry, much in the tradition of TS Eliot and "The Waste Land." I was never able to open his mind to this.

Perhaps unfairly, I find myself using Blade Runner as a sort of character test for evaluating people I don't know very well. If they haven't seen it, that's OK. Many people haven't. However, anyone who has seen it and not been moved by it in some way, I generally dismiss as uninteresting. Somethi...

@Mirani2 Because you have the insight and honesty to admit this, I suspect that you're probably a pretty decent person. @loveetwilight69 My predicament in hs was similar. Here is what I did. I decided to stay in school. I studied the difficult subjects, and concentrated on preparing myself for a good college -- FAR away from the hs jerks. It was a good strategy. @nonthere For me this guitar piece is defining. It's evocative. It invites the listener to imagine and to dream and to soar. For many, the 60s were about "class struggle," but for me the 60s were about learning to think and feel in new ways. In that sense, this piece defines that decade.

I was 16 during the Summer of Love, and of course I miss things about the Sixties, especially the music. However, when I'm honest, I also remember the agony of that time. @jellokatt As you might have guessed, I was a teenager during the Sixties, and I was, of course, disappointed by how reality subsequently dashed the hopes and ideals of that decade. But I agree with your reply. I'm not suggesting that we give up.
