But what is the purpose of eternal punishment, mommy804? What is to be learned from that? And if we indeed do survive our own deaths, why is it too late to believe and/or repent after death? What's the logic behind this "too late" mentality?

God warns people before he punishes them, just as he's doing now! you can learn when your dead, but by then it will be too late, your body is gone, decomposing, but your souls lives forever and thats basically your conscience, your spirit, this will be casted into hell or recieved into heaven. I won't punish my son by killing him, I will warn him, then spank him. although he does not yet know right from wrong. I have no right to kill anyone, GOD is the judgement of who lives and who dies.

Definitions, definitions. I think you'll find history is full of militant atheists by that definition as well. Mao employed quite a lot of them. And before you say "they did not kill in the NAME of atheism", yes they did - in every bit the same way as militant theists killed in the name of theism. Mao was not only an atheist, but an ANTI-theist, who persecuted theists for no other reason than being theists. That is killing in the name of atheism.

But then, I define as "militant" atheist same as I define "militant" theist: fundamentalist, "my way is the only way, and the rest should be removed" kind. There are plenty of those on both (all) sides of the fence.

Um, except that militant theists are actually militant. They're the ones who crash planes into buildings or blow up abortion clinics. The atheists who are labeled as "militant" do nothing more than speak out.
