Somehow you got LDS doctrine completely screwed up. No LDS teacher would say they can earn their salvation. There is a big difference between a required set of commandments and just waving your hand and saying Jesus all day. Obedience isn't payment for salvation. It is honor and respect for the laws of God.

FYI A Christian cult is any religious movement, which claims the backing of Christ or the Bible, but distorts the central message of Christianity by: Additional revelation; Displaces a fundamental tenet of the faith with a secondary matter; Adds to the books of the Bible; Subtracts the diety of God; Multiplies works to salvation; Divides the loyalties of members from God to a different salvation; Claim to be Christian yet deny the cardinal Christian tenents. Christian cult = counterfeit Christianity.

Cult- noun.: a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies..
