Truly magnificent. The comment earlier that this is so private, just between her and God is right on. Callas is magnificent, but she is singing to the audience. Caballe is indeed singing to God. Reminds me of the Othello Ave Maria. So private. Not for the audience, just God.

Solti usually gets it right. This is extraordinary. Thank you for posting it. And, for what it is worth, I don't think Lorengar's vibrato is distracting.

Speaking of the bow hold, does there not seem to be slightly more distance between the hair of the bow and the stick? I have seen a different "baroque" now that has a curved stick and many inches of gap between it and the hair.

Everything is excellent until the last two b minor chords. They are unworldly, with the long oboe holding the tone. Never, ever heard this way, always hoped someone would. Thank you.

The smallness of the ensemble makes this so transparent, in the way it needs to be. An orchestra suited for Mahler is not suited for Mozart. Magnificent playing, but slight imperfections or wobbling in recording and/ot play back gives the sustained notes a vibrato that should not be there for a piano.

Is there any possibility you have the first and second movements of this? This is as well played as I have ever heard it.

Yes, missed very much. Her Queen of the Night was the standard for decades. A true professional, more interested in the music itself than drawing attention to herself.

Ferocious is a good word, but it is not out of control and makes sense musically. Something akin to a rarely heard Eroica by Tocannini which is ferocious and driven like this. The opening chords sound like rifle shots.

I cannot find any reference to say with any certainty if that is Sara or Maybelle singing. Was it just the standard "division of labor" that Sara sang lead and Maybelle played guitar accompanyment? I would be glad to hear any authority on this. Thanks.

As much as I am captivated by Ms Bonney, the pianist, and the piano, must not go without comment. Such exquisite playing, too few pianists understand accompaniment. They all seem to want to be Horowitz. And what ever piano that was was beautiful. All around, an incredible five minutes. Thank you.

Many years ago on St Paul Sunday Morning (PBS Radio) I heard Jaap Schroeder discuss this and then play. I believe he said it needed to be transposed to a minor in order to fit the violin. Can anyone tell if this has been transposed?
