This channel is aimed at amateur chess enthusiasts who would like to improve their skills. The purpose of my videos is to teach viewers techniques and ideas to apply in their own games. Chess is all about having strong foundational knowledge and being able to apply that knowledge in a logical manner in a wide variety of situations. Being able to identify a situation where a certain technique will work is referred to as 'pattern recognition'. Without a solid foundation, a player will experience a lot of variance and will find it very hard to improve consistently in the long run.
I look at many of my own games and particularly instructive were the games where I lost. Therefore, an additional endeavour of my videos is to communicate how a 2100-level player thinks and often the flaws of my thinking process too.
Playing chess long term has various defined benefits. One of the greatest ones, in my opinion, is that the incremental learning process in chess mimics the learning process in life. Chess teaches a player to remain humble and to take each loss as a learning opportunity. More tangible concepts that chess promotes include logical thinking, pattern recognition, integrated mathematical calculation, verbal reasoning and strategic planning. For an aging audience, play and studying chess has been supported by a number of studies to delay dementia.
