About Me:
When did this all begin?
I have always enjoyed music even from a very young age. My first performances began at school. If there was any productions, I always volunteered as I loved the school plays and felt it was where I belonged.
I joined a local drama group to give me the experience I craved so much for. I have been so lucky and have always been given the support from family, friends and teachers to help me pursue my music career.
I left school at 16 trying to decide what I wanted to do. Mum and Dad decided to make the decision to move to Lincolnshire UK. I joined the local college in 2003 to study Performing Arts but soon realized after singing in a number of plays that it was music I was interested in. I then knew for sure that I wanted to be a singer.
I filled my time going to Hotels and performing for them. I was quite lucky because I was joined by my father who is my Guitarist and Backing Singer/ Sound Technician. I entered a Talent Competition and made it through to the finals which we all thought was a great achievement at the age of 16.
Both my mum and dad supported me. Everything was going great until my mum started to feel ill and eventually we decided to move back to the Midlands UK in 2005. Not long after that, my mum was rushed into our local George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton with severe head pains. After many tests and scans she was diagnosed with Cerebral Deep Vein Thrombosis (three blood clots on the brain). While she was ill my dad felt so low that he went to his keyboard and started to write this tune. It wasn't until she received the all clear that he turned it into a happy song, wrote the lyrics and then came up with the theme of the wedding. It's called "Our Special Day (From Me To You)" and it is a very sentimental piece to us. We had the song professionally recorded in London and it made the semi-finals in the UK Songwriting Contest 2007 out of over 5000 entries. This particular record was promoted as part of Thrombosis Awareness Season where we raised £677 for Lifeblood - Thrombosis Charity.
We also recorded a Christmas song called "Seasonal Wishes" which has had quite a lot of downloads and also made the semi-finals in London in the UK Songwriting Contest out of around 6000 entries in 2009. Our supporters, friends and family inspired Alan (Dad) to write this song for the holiday season. We have sold and continue to sell many CD copies and both songs have been played on a number of radio stations in the UK including BBC Radio Lincolnshire and also Internationally. There have been many commercial Radio Interviews, some of which can be heard on our MySpace Link on the homepage.
Who are our influences?
Our influences would have to be The Carpenters. They were fantastic! My dad was always putting on videos of their performances so I must know all of the words by now!
What are we doing at the moment?
We are currently performing to a wide variety of age groups and cover small and large venues throughout the United Kingdom.
Our songs are currently being promoted on various Social Networking sites and we are regularly updating our progress with a variety of music videos on YouTube. With only 15 videos live for broadcast, there has now been over 14,000 plays overall! We will continue to upload them for you to enjoy and will keep you updated on our progress through our Blog.
We as a family all work together and support each other. My Dad (Alan) writes the music, plays guitar alongside me and sorts out all of our music for our performances and YouTube videos. My Mum (Charmaine) looks after my wardrobe, make-up and puts our videos together for us which I am eternally grateful for.
How did we get to choose the name Gemma Class Act? Because we are a good team that work together to provide quality music for every listener.
What does the future hold for us?
Well hopefully people will still enjoy our variety of music we put together and with your support we can give you much more to look forward to.
Conclusion
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our Biography.
My mum has made a full recovery after recently being given the all clear and we would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support, which has helped the family get through a very traumatic time.
We look forward to sharing more of our music with everyone and hope that you will continue to support Gemma Class Act.
