I held a Jewel in my fingers -
And went to sleep -
The day was warm, and winds were prosy -
I said " 'Twill keep" -
I woke-and chid my honest fingers,
The Gem was gone -
And now, an Amethyst remembrance
Is all I own -
Tenevo un gioello tra le dita -
e mi addormentai -
Il giorno era tiepido, i venti monotoni -
Mi dissi: "Durerà" -
Mi svegliai e sgridai le mie dita innocenti,
la gemma era sparita -
e adesso, un ricordo di ametista
è tutto ciò che mi resta.
