In order to love musicals you have to love showtunes. Generally the plots of musicals are pretty thin and the acting is OTT. If I loved showtunes it wouldn't bother me at all that people randomly bust into song with no narrative justification. But taste is a very personal thing and it's just not my bag. There are always exceptions of course, I actually really enjoyed Les Miserables (which is arguably more of an opera). But generally speaking I don't particularly enjoy musicals.

I don't really do a huge amount with the mastering. I just use the multiband compression pluggin that comes with Ableton Live and a really handy limiter called W1 by a bloke called Yohng. It's a free pluggin and it's really good.
