Actually in one of the very first publicity shoots of the new line up of ABC (from which this cartoon image is a drawing of) Eden was wearing a black wig, also on the back of this sleeve are individual pictures of the band members - again Eden is in a black wig.

'all backing track with nothing played live' the produces of The Tube wouldn't have let them. That was the thing about The Tube all music was live - it was programmes like TOTP were bands didn't play live.
