About this user
Hello there!
Basically I'm just your average college music student who happens to love composing and transcribing music by ear! I think it's excellent practice for honing your abilities that all musicians should have to pursue a musical career.
For my transcriptions, I tend to be more concerned with the playback over the notation of the score, which is why you might find some unconventional methods of notation in some of my transcriptions. The main programs I use are Sibelius 5 and Mario Paint Composer. Sibelius 5 is a nice program with quick notation shortcuts and a wonderful layout to view your scores. However, the sound quality of Sibelius 5 is not the greatest. Mario Paint Composer on the other hand is lacking in notational shortcuts, and it can often be very complicated to see the overall picture of one's score with the limited layout. However, with the proper knowledge of soundfonts and hacking, MPC can prove to produce much greater sound quality than Sibelius 5. Not to mention the cute interface makes it all the worthwhile!
Anyway, as one may notice through my videos, I tend to transcribe a lot of video game music. Though I can't really say I'm much of a gamer myself, I really do enjoy the music for a few reasons. For one, it's very modern yet still mostly holds true to the theoretical guidelines that the great masters of music provided us with centuries ago. Secondly, it is less common to find [authentic] sheet music for video games, which can be an excitable challenge for me, knowing that I have to rely entirely on my ear because I'll probably never see the sheet music.
As for my compositions, I like to incorporate a lot of knowledge I've gained from my years of theory classes. I'm also very interested in composing in the styles of other composers from the baroque, classical and romantic eras. I find, however, that many composers today find this as "not innovative" and subject to an unsuccessful career in composition. I guess I'll just be content with an amateur status then. :P
Finally, if you like my videos, please subscribe! I'd greatly appreciate it, and I'm always open to answering any questions you might have!
